What began on a Montana ranch has grown into two design-driven companies built for today. One rooted in physical fabrication. One focused on visual and creative design. Both guided by the same belief that craftsmanship matters, details matter, and the work should last.
Whether we are fabricating something tangible or shaping something visual, every project starts with listening. We take the time to understand the challenge, the context, and what success truly looks like.

At NSB Design Works and Great Bowerbirdling Design, every project carries a story. It is a story that began generations ago, long before these companies had names, shops, or clients. It starts on a ranch in Montana, under wide skies and between fence lines marked by a symbol that meant everything: the N Lazy S Bar.
THE BRAND BEHIND THE NAME
The N Lazy S Bar was the official cattle brand of the Summerfelt family ranch, passed down through generations. It was not just a mark for livestock. It was a signature burned into every fence, gate, tool, and structure built by hand. It stood for creativity, resilience, pride, and a refusal to settle for anything less than excellent.
At the heart of that brand was Uncle Don Summerfelt, a creative force on the ranch whose ingenuity was widely respected. Alongside him stood Earl Summerfelt, my grandfather, a man of quiet strength and endless resourcefulness. And there was Trev Summerfelt, my father, whose steady hands and sharp mind carried that legacy directly into the next generation.
LESSONS NO CLASSROOM COULD TEACH
While I spent some time on the ranch itself, it was the countless hours spent with Grandpa Earl and especially with my dad, Trev, that shaped me most. Problem solving was not something you were taught. It was something you lived. Around them, building, fixing, and improving were simply part of daily life.
I saw it in the way Grandpa Earl could repair a broken piece of machinery with scrap materials, patience, and determination. I saw it in how my dad could look at any challenge and instinctively find a better way forward. Problems were not roadblocks. They were invitations to create something stronger, smarter, and more durable.
Those days were filled with sparks from welding torches, the steady work of caring for animals, and lessons no classroom could ever offer. Fishing trips became lessons in patience and quiet thinking. Horseback rides became lessons in resilience. You fall, you get back up, and you try again.
Through it all, one thing was clear. Craftsmanship, creativity, and resilience were not skills in the Summerfelt family. They were a way of life. They are the foundation for everything NSB Design Works and Great Bowerbirdling Design stand for today.

That spirit lives on through NSB Design Works. Built on the values of creativity, problem solving, and craftsmanship, NSB specializes in architectural fabrication, specialty builds, and solutions for projects others walk away from. From custom railings to complex fabrications, every project reflects the same mindset shaped on the ranch: skilled hands, creative thinking, and work built to last.

As NSB grew, another realization became clear. Creativity is not limited to fabrication. It lives in ideas, identities, visuals, and stories. Some challenges are solved with welding torches. Others are solved with imagination, strategy, and design.
Great Bowerbirdling Design was created to meet that need.
Named after the bowerbird, a creature known for building intricate structures to attract and inspire, Great Bowerbirdling Design focuses on brand strategy, visual identity, digital design, and creative storytelling. It is a design-first studio for people, brands, and organizations that want to stand out, tell their story clearly, and build something meaningful.

Caleb Summerfelt is the founder of NSB Design Works and Great Bowerbirdling Design. His work bridges architecture, design strategy, visual storytelling, and concept development, helping shape projects from early vision through final execution.
With degrees in Architecture and Engineering Technology Management from Washington State University, Caleb approaches design with both creative and systems thinking. His focus is on building thoughtful, purposeful work that connects strong ideas with skilled execution.
