At NSB Design Works, every project carries a story. That story began long before this company had a name, a shop, or a single project. It started on a ranch in Montana, under wide skies and between fence lines marked by a symbol that meant everything: the N Lazy S Bar.
The N Lazy S Bar was the official cattle brand of the Summerfelt family ranch, passed down through generations. It was not just a mark for livestock. It was a signature placed on everything built by hand. Fences, gates, equipment repairs, even the ranch sign at the end of the driveway. If it was made on that land, it carried that brand.
For many years, the man behind that brand was my Uncle Don Summerfelt. His creativity and work ethic were well known across those fields. Tools mattered, but creative thinking mattered more. When something broke, it was not replaced without thought. It was studied, repaired, and often improved using whatever materials were available. And when the right tool did not exist, one was made.
That mindset shaped more than the ranch. It shaped the people who worked there, especially the next generation. Summers spent working alongside Uncle Don taught lessons no classroom ever could. Lessons about problem solving, pride in craftsmanship, and the satisfaction that comes from building something with your own hands.
When it came time to start this company, there was only ever going to be one name. NSB, short for the N Lazy S Bar, was not chosen as a nostalgic reference. It was chosen as a commitment. A commitment that everything we build would reflect the same creativity, grit, and care that defined that ranch.
Today, NSB Design Works carries that legacy forward through modern design and fabrication. We combine skilled hands, creative thinking, and a refusal to accept that something cannot be done simply because it has not been done before.
